On March 31, 2022, from 3:00-4:00 pm, the China General Chamber of Commerce U.S.A. –
Chicago hosted an online interview celebrating Women’s History Month. This webinar invited
two female leaders of internationally renowned multinational corporations, Tracy Xu, Senior
Vice President, Gallagher Global Brokerage, and Anne Li, Executive Director People Advisory
Services, Ernst & Young. From studying in the United States to making career choices, they
overcame many difficulties and responded to various challenges. They turned the disadvantages of being an immigrant, female, and minority into the advantages. Meanwhile, they cultivated international perspectives, accumulated inner wisdom, and became outstanding Asian women in the workplace.
At first glance, you will be impressed by their calmness and charm. However, as the interview
progresses, you will discover their decisiveness, sincerity, and ability to connect under the soft
surface. As more and more Asian women become active executives, women play an increasingly
important role with recognizable power. As the interview dives deeper, you will not only see
their competence and elegance in the workplace but will also be touched by their connotation
They shared the journey that pushed them to come to the U.S., how they integrated themselves into the U.S workplace and eventually gained recognition and realized their career dreams. They used their professional knowledge, problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, diligence, and hard work, to lay a solid foundation for career development. In addition, they exerted strong communication skills and the ability to listen and respond to customers’ needs, business alliances, employees, and colleagues. As the two ladies shared, “Faced with the unknown, I am both confident and full of self-doubt. Facing discomfort in the crowd, I can choose to withdraw and remain silent, or I can choose to move forward and participate. Facing children, I sometimes felt anxiety and guilt.” Despite the entanglement, they chose to be brave and move forward. Through their successes and failures, they developed the ability to make tough decisions and implement them. They also used various opportunities in and out of the workplace to develop public speaking skills and leadership. It is overcoming challenges that accelerate their capabilities.
As two charismatic and outstanding female business leaders, they are dedicated to community service in their spare time. Therefore, they naturally care about minorities and the development of Chinese investments in the United States. During the interview, also they shared how to integrate work, family, and personal interests.
