New Year and New Policy Seminar in Detroit

On February 22, the New Year and New Policy Seminar was successfully held in Detroit, MI by the China General Chamber of Commerce – Chicago. Three important topics were raised and discussed by over 30 Chinese funded companies, including (1) responses to tariff changes, economic sanctions and export control, (2) incentives on investment, employment and staff training opportunities, and (3) briefing on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and the review and forecast analysis on the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA).

Mr. Wenhua Huang, President of SAIC Motor America, delivered the welcome speech as he said, we hope to see today as a brand new start to broaden the scope of cooperation between member enterprises and the China General Chamber of Commerce so that all our members would get abundant support and resource as they need. Mr Huang further complimented how CGCC-Chicago had fulfilled its purpose and commitment by bringing their service to each and every relevant state in the Midwest.

Since May of last year, CGCC-Chicago changed its mode of invitation for business seminars.  Member enterprises do not simply get an email invitation that needs to be forwarded to relevant staff and participant; instead, they participate in the process with CGCC-Chicago in researching, finding resources and deciding what seminar topics to be offered. Topics raised and discussed in the seminars organized in this way included: government relations, corporate public relations, social responsibilities, and strategies for the 301 tariff etc. More topics to be discussed based on the results of last years Members’ Satisfaction Survey will be on government subsidies, cross-cultural communication, and organization leadership development. On February 25, CGCC-Chicago will launch its first webinar on China International Import Exhibition (CIIE) promotion. The webinar format aims to break the geographic barrier and enable more member enterprises to benefit from the service by CGCC-Chicago.

CGCC-Chicago would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to Grant Thornton International for providing the venue of the seminar, helping with content design and research, and giving professional industry-related opinion. At the end of the event, representatives from two Chinese companies won the New Year lucky draw gifts, two pig dolls representing the auspicious  start of the Year of the Pig, courtesy of the Consulate General of China in Chicago.
