On 03/01/2019, our honorable board member CRRC Sifang America held opening ceremony for its new comprehensive assembly factory on the site, it new plant is on 13535 South Torrence Avenue. With almost 70 assembly workers hired, 21 of them will be sent to China for professional skills training soon. The honorable guests include: Rahm Emanuel (Mayor of Chicago), Liu Jun (Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Chicago), Sue Sadlowski Garza (Administrator of 10th District), Andrea Zopp (Director of World Business Chicago), Dorval Carter (Head of Chicago Transit Authority), and more than 100 workers of CRRC Sifang America including Vice CEO Yang Jilian.
The Consul General Mr Liu said in the opening: “The program will provide more than 200 jobs in public transportation sector, and make economic contribution to local community development. CRRC Sifang America must assures the guaranteed quality to bring comfortable experience for the citizens of Chicago in public transportation. Hopefully those workers traveling to China will not only learn the necessary skills required, but also feel the friendliness and hospitality of the Chinese people, we wish this would enhance the friendship and understanding between the two peoples. ”
Mayor Emmanuel said, “City rail vehicle manufacturing is the glory and precious memory of the older generation of Chicago people. CRRC has brought this traditional industry back to Chicago, not only to upgrade our urban rail vehicles, but also to the development of the Chicago economy has injected a strong momentum. The establishment of this state-of-the-art subway vehicle assembly plant is not only an investment in the Chicago Transportation Authority, but also a vote of trust in Chicago’s economy and labor.”
CRRC Sifang America is committed to community recruitment from the city of Chicago and surrounding areas, and works with unions such as the Chicago Labor Union, IBEW and SMART to ensure union labor within these communities. In this regard, the cooperation units with CRRC and the trade unions also include JMA, the Calumet Regional Industry Council (CAIC) and the Chicago City College.
CRRC’s Chicago General Assembly Plant started construction in Chicago on March 16, 2017, with a total investment of US$100 million and an area of 275 acres. In March 2016, CRRC Sifang Co., Ltd. won the bid for 846 vehicles in Chicago with a total amount of US$1.3 billion. After the CSR Sifang Chicago assembly plant is officially put into operation, the annual production capacity will be no less than 168 subway vehicles. The new plant will be Chicago’s first subway vehicle manufacturing facility in 36 years, making the city a new base for metro manufacturing. While creating 169 local jobs, it also helps Chicago City improve its southern investment and employment environment.
